Marijuana has often been presented as an effective pain relief medication, and indeed it has many benefits in this regard. For people suffering from chronic or acute pain, marijuana may just be the safest and most effective mend available.

Of the two varieties of marijuana – Sativa and Indica – the latter has proven to be the more effective for pain relief. Sativas tend to have a more cerebral effect that may enhance creativity and helps users focus. Indicas, on the other hand, have a more physical effect, with a body stone that is better suited for relaxation and easing pain. They may also cause a person to become sleepy, which is an even better effect for those suffering from pain and insomnia.

Much of the pain relief and relaxing properties of Indicas are attributable to the CBD cannabinoid, which actually has minimal or even no psychoactive effects. The high CBD content of Indica strains is also responsible for the sleepiness that most users feel. Although Indicas do have THC, which provides a more cerebral, ‘mind’ high, strains belonging to this category have a more noticeable physical effect, which is better suited to pain relief.

For dealing with pain, the Kush strains are especially useful. There are many varieties that you may try, but the most effective for pain relief seem to be Master Kush, Grape Ape, and Grape Crush.

Grape Ape

Master Kush

Master Kush is definitely one of the strongest Indicas available. The strain is characterized by dark green leaves and the buds are noticeably heavy and tightly packed. Like all Kush varieties, Master Kush also has a distinctive taste and smell that most users find pretty pleasant and enjoyable.

One thing that you may notice about Master Kush is how quickly it knocks you out, although this definitely isn’t an unpleasant quality, especially if you are looking for relief from pain. Two or three hits should be enough to put you to sleep, although the effects may vary from person to person.

The two other Indica strains ideally suited for pain relief are purple varieties. These plants have predominantly purple phenotypes instead of the green that typifies most other Sativas and even some Indicas. Interestingly enough, these strains don’t provide as heavy a body high as most Indicas, although they can be quite effective for pain relief.

Grape Ape

Grape Ape

Grape Ape has become quite popular for pain relieving purposes due to its effectiveness and great taste and flavor. Unlike many purples, this strain actually has more of a green tinge to it, with spots of purple throughout the bud. With a sweet flavor and a fragrant odor, Grape Ape is a great choice for relaxation and encouraging sleep, and especially for dealing with pain.

Grape Crush

Grape Crush is another purple Indica strain that makes a great pain relief medication. It is actually a hybrid resulting from the cross breeding of Indica and Sativa strains, although the Indica qualities are most dominant. With less CBD content than most other Indicas, Grape Crush won’t really knock you out, although it is still highly effective for pain relief purposes.
