With the holidays right around the corner, it’s high time to start thinking about feasts. But what if you’re not a chef at all and more of the type who hangs out and goes on a walk with the cousins before dinnertime? Luckily, you don’t have to be well-versed in the kitchen for a delicious danksgiving meal. Just crash a family dinner and bring one of these four weedsgiving hacks to stay medicated and personable.

Hack #1: BYOB(utter)

Butter goes with everything during Thanksgiving, and it’s a great way to enjoy some edibles on the sly. If you’re headed to your prohibitionist-era grandparents house for Thanksgiving and know cannabis use will be frowned upon, just bring your own butter. Cannabutter can be easily spread on grandma’s famous dinner rolls and added easily to mama’s mashed potatoes. You’ll want to make your own cannabutter before you show up, though. Here’s a straightforward step-by-step guide on making cannabutter that anyone can master. For best results, put it into a stick mold and share it with the cousins.

Hack #2: Pack in the gravy

If you’re looking to avoid an evening limited to buttery foods, you can’t go wrong with bringing your own gravy instead. Gravy belongs on literally everything from turkey and potatoes to all the other Thanksgiving fixings, so nobody will bat an eye if you bring your own.  Gravy is insanely easy to make and calls for a bit of cannabutter.

To make it, you will need:

  • 2 cups of broth
  • ¼ cup of fat drippings from a roast (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cannabutter
  • ¼ cup of flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Get cooking:

  1. Melt the fat and the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Use 4 tbsp cannabutter if you’re omitting the fat.
  2. Sprinkle in your flour bit by bit while stirring with a wooden spoon until you have a paste-like mixture. Stir in your seasonings and fry for about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Whisk in your broth slowly until all liquids are in the pan.
  4. Bring the gravy to a simmer and stir every so often until it reaches your desired consistency.

Hack #3: Bring some 420-friendly appetizers

If your family is on board with weed, surprise them with some THC-infused appetizers for everyone at the adult’s table to share. You can’t go wrong with this stoner-proof cheese ball recipe. To make it, you’ll need a little cannabis-infused cooking oil. Luckily, cooking oil might even be easier to make than cannabutter.

To make it, you will need:

  • 2 blocks of softened cream cheese (16 oz)
  • 2 tbsp cannabis-infused cooking oil
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup chopped dill pickles
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp pickle juice
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Dash of salt and pepper
  • For toppings: bacon, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, fresh dill, cheddar cheese, etc (optional)

To make the cheese balls:

  1. Mix your cream cheese, oil, cheddar, pickles and pickle juice, dill, and seasonings until combined well.
  2. Form the mixture into a large ball
  3. Roll your cheese ball into desired toppings on a plate until coated completely.
  4. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container until you’re ready to serve.
  5. Remove the cheeseball from the fridge an hour prior to serving. Serve with crackers or bread

Hack #4: Fight the after-dinner turkey fatigue with some dessert

If all else fails but you have a night of cards and games with the family left, bring some weed cookies. Whether your family is 420-friendly or not is beside the point, especially after dinner when you still need to rally with a belly full of turkey and tryptophan. Weed cookies are both discrete and shareable, making them the perfect way to wrap up your danksgiving dinner with a little pick me up. Check out our recipe on how to make weed cookies for the full instructions.

All in all, these hacks are great for the unsavvy cooks out there looking for a way to medicate discreetly and for those looking to share weedsgiving with friends and family. Remember to stay hydrated and always let people know that your snacks are medicated before they partake. Other than that, have a great weedsgiving!
