Edibles are fast become the first choice for a growing number of consumers in the marijuana industry. Potent, high-quality, and effectively negating the need to inhale smoke, edibles are a good choice for medical marijuana patients, and even recreational users who would rather eat their marijuana than smoke it.
It is important to realize that there are drawbacks to eating cannabis as well. The potency of many commercially available products can catch even experienced users off-guard, resulting in a much more powerful high than they can deal with. When trying an edible for the first time, or even when trying an unfamiliar, new product, it would be best to take only a little piece at a time. After waiting around 45 minutes to an hour for the effects to kick in, you can then take another piece if you feel you can handle it.
With that out of the way, let’s focus our attention on the six entries that came in at the top of the edibles category in the recently concluded 2014 High Times Cannabis Cup in the Bay Area.
First place- Artisanal Cannabis Macarons by Madame Munchie
At first place is this delectable package of five macarons with 20 mg of THC in each one. Noticeably high-quality with a luxurious appearance, Artisanal Cannabis Macarons comes in five delectable flavors, including Hazelnut Mocha, Green Gold, and Grilled PB&J. These treats are available from outlets such as Barbary Coast, and Jolly Green Giant.
Second place- Hazelnug and Grub by Organicares Collective
A hazelnut spread with 80 mg of THC, Hazelnug and Grub is a great choice for medicated munching. A tablespoon contains about 20 mg, which makes it suitable for a wide variety of user preferences. Made by cannabis patients for patients, the package comes with unmedicated crackers along in addition to the spread.

This innovative product by Jambo took many of the judges by surprise. Containing 40 mg of THC, the deliciously tempting treat contains a variety of healthy ingredients including cashews, almonds, raisins, cacao, honey, and some of the finest medical-grade cannabis available on the market.
Honorable Mention- Crowns by the Herbsmith (Organic OC)
Another one for the sweet-toothed stoners, a package of Crowns consists of three delectable truffles, each with 40 mg of THC and a candied almond on top. Because of the potency of each truffle, some judges preferred the packaging to have been marked more overtly in order to avoid accidental ingestion.
Honorable Mention- Reef Jerky by Badfish Extracts
Made by Badfish Extracts, each Reef Jerky comes with 100 mg of THC. Flavorful and reasonably potent, these tasty treats are available in many dispensaries in and around the Bay Area.
Honorable Mention- Mint Irish Cream by Kiva Confections
