Colorado being one of the marijuana capitals in the United States has its share of stoner-friendly eating spots. As most every stoner knows, the munchies can strike anywhere and you will need a place to satisfy them. There’s only so much Mac ’n’ Cheese or nachos and dip you can tolerate, so if you have a bit of cash to spare after scoring some quality bud, these places are worth checking out for some excellent chow and more.
Cheba Hut definitely takes its inspiration from Subway. With a quaint and charming cartoon-based décor that caters to stoner tastes, the place however has a distinct charm all its own. Cheba offers a number of delectable sandwiches, but the highlights of the menu are the “5-0” selections, which contain varying amounts of pork, of course. Available in sizes ranging from the 4” nug all the way to the 12” blunt, the sandwich makes for a filling snack or even a meal unto itself. For drinks, you get a selection of Kool-Aid, which really doesn’t make it all that much different from the typical stoner chow.
Pizza is of course the mainstay of any stoner meal, and in Denver, Sexy Pizza is one of the couple of places worth checking out. The place takes pride in its great selection of pies, all of which will really hit the spot after a puff or two with your buddies. More than the menu selection however, you may want to consider dropping by Sexy Pizza because of the company’s policy of donating a portion of the pizza sales (for selected pies) to various worthy organizations. Among the organizations that Sexy Pizza contributes to are: Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation (SAFER), Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP), and Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP).
Mary Jane’s Pizza
A worthy alternative to Sexy Pizza is Mary Jane’s Pizza. This is actually a better place to order from late at night or into the wee hours of the morning, as they offer delivery service until 4:20 a.m. They’re not quite as open about their marijuana policy–for or against–as Cheba Hut, but judging from the clientele, the management seems to be pretty tolerant as long as you keep it discreet. If it’s late at night and the munchies strike, Mary Jane’s Pizza is probably your only option. Tough luck if you’re outside delivery range, but you could always drop in if you’re anywhere near the Highlands district.
Coohills is one step above all the other establishments on this list. It is actually closer to an actual restaurant than the typical pizza joint, but it does still retain a casual and friendly charm. The man behind the delectable menu selections is Tom Coohill, who is equal parts marijuana connoisseur and chef. Bringing his twin interests to the kitchen, Coohill creates a superb selection of tempting dishes with an emphasis on fresh ingredients produced locally.
